AHS Trainers

Jodie Smith – Owner & Head Trainer

Jodie Smith began her riding career in Ohio at the age of 6.  With an insatiable passion for horses, she spent hours on end at her training stable taking lessons and doing anything and everything horse related.  Jodie moved to Arizona in 1998 where she purchased her first horse and began competing in the Hunter ring.  Jodie enjoyed many successes in and out of the show ring and wanted to find a way to turn her love into her career.  In 2000, Jodie started teaching lessons to a few of her fellow boarders and her training program took off from there.  In 2004, Jodie acquired her American Riding Instructors Association (ARIA) certification as well as her Elementary Education degree from Southwestern College.  While continuing to build her training business, Jodie taught high school English and Public Speaking classes.  In 2008, Jodie was finally able to pursue her training business full time and in 2010 she and her husband Daniel purchased their own boarding and training facility where Jodie currently rides and trains.

Jodie Smith is a passionate, hard working, highly effective teacher and communicator with a strong desire for each and every one of her students to be the most educated, confident, and well rounded horseman he or she can be!  Jodie believes that horses, and our often unmerited opportunity to be around and work with them, are a gift from God and she feels truly blessed to be able to do so on a daily basis.  While Jodie does support and work towards successes in the show ring, she stands firm in her conviction that the treasures are in the journey!

Amy Sneed - Assistant Trainer

Amy Sneed grew up in a suburb of Chicago and went to school at Illinois State University where she graduated in May 2011. Amy then made the move to Arizona after taking a 6th grade teaching position in Surprise. She purchased her horse, Sedona, during her sophomore year of college but has been riding since the age of 6. She trained at Plantation Equestrian Center in Naperville, IL and had the opportunity to ride many of the resident horses.  In addition, Amy also showed on the IHJA circuit and taught beginner lessons during the summer months. Amy combines her two passions, teaching and riding, in the way she instructs her beginner riders. She believes it is important to understand the basics of horse care, safety, and riding to be a successful equestrian. Having fun is what the sport is all about and Amy will help you develop the foundation and confidence to really enjoy your time with such wonderful animals.
